Here are two songs by Berlin based Rock band Random. We did the songs in 2007. Band leader Paul Eisenach, singer Giséle and I sat down and produced the songs. I mainly did the drums and the arrangement and it was later mastered by Dj Malik (Clueso). Scratches were made by Dj Mawdee & some by Dj Madsen. >> The band played live bass, keys and the horns section. Me and Paul recorded the drums in Timm "Timbo" Schreiner's studio. Timm plays in my band (A-Scholars / check out our album that I uploaded a few weeks ago).

This remains the only vinyl release for most of these tracks.

This was a limited-edition release in 2008, and we only have a few copies now. We hope you enjoy it.

Noel Orphanage Nyundo / Rwanda

My grandmother's sister (great aunt) co-manages this private-community run orphanage with 625 children of all ages, and 52 babies (March 2010) in Nyundo, Kigali. I remember the days when my parents and I visited the children before 1994.

The orphanage is the largest in Rwanda. It has its own micro-infrastructure including a kitchen which provides food for all 625 children & staff members, a school, a hospital, cultivated fields for potatoes and vegetables and a farm to raise cattle, pigs and goats. Release: A-Scholars Live at Café Haag

Lost and found. I guess that is how I would describe this important piece of music. To make it short: Live at Café Haag was recorded on the 20th of Januar 2006. Back then we used to have a session once a week, played a couple of gigs and were even offered to play a tour in Germany. However, around this time we all were focused on our studies and I moved to east Germany and later to Finland. Live at Café Haag shows only a fragment of what we did and I believe that each one of us shares the same thought: we've got to sit down, write and record an album.

I'm sure you guys want to know how this happened, right? well, as I was doing some marketing for my current release "Born in the Land of a Thousand Hills" (www.mishoothedrumkit.com). Read this very interesting article about how our language shapes our experience of the world. It explains why certain languages make you feel, think and therefore act differently. I would say, it's a must read if you are interested in marketing.

Here is an excerpt:

A German bridge is feminine (die Brücke), for instance, but el puente is masculine in Spanish; and the same goes for clocks, apartments, forks, newspapers, pockets, shoulders, stamps, tickets, violins, the sun, the world and love. On the other hand, an apple is masculine for Germans but feminine in Spanish, and so are chairs, brooms, butterflies, keys, mountains, stars, tables, wars, rain and garbage. When speakers were asked to grade various objects on a range of characteristics, Spanish speakers deemed bridges, clocks and violins to have more “manly properties” like strength, but Germans tended to think of them as more slender or elegant. With objects like mountains or chairs, which are “he” in German but “she” in Spanish, the effect was reversed.

In a different experiment, French and Spanish speakers were asked to assign human voices to various objects in a cartoon. When French speakers saw a picture of a fork (la fourchette), most of them wanted it to speak in a woman’s voice, but Spanish speakers, for whom el tenedor is masculine, preferred a gravelly male voice for it. More recently, psychologists have even shown that “gendered languages” imprint gender traits for objects so strongly in the mind that these associations obstruct speakers’ ability to commit information to memory.

Keenan drowned at a Independence day party and died on the 5th of July 2010. He was known for his Nollie and switch tricks and his amazing style. Keenan was 26 years old when he died.

"Buffolo Gals" was the first chart hit which included scratching/cuts. McLaren shot the video together with the Rock Steady Crew, the World Famous Supreme Team and Graffiti-artist Keith Haring.

He died of a rare form of cancer called Mesothelioma, yesterday.

Conventional contact lenses are polymers formed in specific shapes to correct faulty vision. To turn such a lens into a functional system, we integrate control circuits, communication circuits, and miniature antennas into the lens using custom-built optoelectronic components. Those components will eventually include hundreds of LEDs, which will form images in front of the eye, such as words, charts, and photographs. Much of the hardware is semitransparent so that wearers can navigate their surroundings without crashing into them or becoming disoriented. In all likelihood, a separate, portable device will relay displayable information to the lens’s control circuit, which will operate the optoelectronics in the lens.

These lenses don’t need to be very complex to be useful. Even a lens with a single pixel could aid people with impaired hearing or be incorporated as an indicator into computer games. With more colors and resolution, the repertoire could be expanded to include displaying text, translating speech into captions in real time, or offering visual cues from a navigation system. With basic image processing and Internet access, a contact-lens display could unlock whole new worlds of visual information, unfettered by the constraints of a physical display.

Besides visual enhancement, noninvasive monitoring of the wearer’s biomarkers and health indicators could be a huge future market. We’ve built several simple sensors that can detect the concentration of a molecule, such as glucose. Sensors built onto lenses would let diabetic wearers keep tabs on blood-sugar levels without needing to prick a finger. The glucose detectors we’re evaluating now are a mere glimmer of what will be possible in the next 5 to 10 years. Contact lenses are worn daily by more than a hundred million people, and they are one of the only disposable, mass-market products that remain in contact, through fluids, with the interior of the body for an extended period of time. When you get a blood test, your doctor is probably measuring many of the same biomarkers that are found in the live cells on the surface of your eye—and in concentrations that correlate closely with the levels in your bloodstream. An appropriately configured contact lens could monitor cholesterol, sodium, and potassium levels, to name a few potential targets. Coupled with a wireless data transmitter, the lens could relay information to medics or nurses instantly, without needles or laboratory chemistry, and with a much lower chance of mix-ups.(...)
